Robin Lehner Comments On Possible Contract Termination With Golden Knights

Robin Lehner didn’t show up to training camp and Kelly McCrimmon is ready to go to war. That pretty much sums up what’s going on here in one sentence. The Vegas Golden Knights are looking into contract termination for Lehner so that they can get his money off the books.

The man known as Panda weighed in on what’s going on with his contract.

“All I can say at this time,” Lehner said. “Is everyone knows why I couldn’t be there. I am waiting calmly for things to be sorted out.”

Lehner, 33, underwent hip surgery in 2022 and hasn’t played since. Given what’s going on in his life, I’d imagine we’ve seen the last of Lehner.

“Robin will not be reporting to the club this year. He continues to be unfit to play,” Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon told reporters on Thursday. “There are unique circumstances surrounding this situation that the NHL, the NHLPA and the club are currently working through. Collectively, we are assessing our next steps, and when we have more to say, we will. There will be nothing further until then.”

If Vegas is able to get this contract taken off the books, they would save his entire $5 million AAV. The VGK would no longer have to operate in LTIR if that were to become the case. They would have approximately $1.3 million in space, which is vital for adding at the upcoming trade deadline. Something that would obviously be huge for the club.
