UConn is hot on the Recruiting Trail

The Big East has done wonders for UConn in terms of recruiting! As we move closer to the start of the 2020-2021 college basketball season, UConn has made some big moves for the class of 2021. In the span of 15 days from July 26-Aug. 10, they added point guard Rahsool Diggins from Archbishop Wood (Pa.), shooting guard Jordan Hawkins from DeMatha (Md.) Catholic and forward Samson Johnson from The Patrick School (N.J.). That’s three players from the Northeast from New York/New Jersey to the DMV area. But the best part about that is that all three players are from Big East territory.

All 3 of the players are 4 star recruits for the class of 2021. Coming into this season was the 23rd ranked team for recruiting. However, UConn currently has the No. 5 ranked recruiting class nationally for 2021, trailing only Michigan State, Florida State, Villanova and Baylor. Therefore making them 2nd in the Big East only behind Villanova.

Once Diggins announced he would attend UConn he spoke with Samson Johnson. He told Johnson “Make it happen.” Johnson’s commitment fills all of UConn’s scholarships for 2021, with seniors Isaiah Whaley, Josh Carlton and Tyler Polley leaving and the three incoming freshman taking their spots. However, is anticipated the Huskies will lose some players early to the NBA, such as James Bouknight, so they may need more players. But they are in a position to pause and assess their needs later.

Along with Diggins and Johnson, UConn also received a commitment from star shooting guard Jordan Hawkins.

One thing I shared with the staff was that I wanted to be in college for one or two years and they understood and committed to helping me develop to fulfill that goal and hopefully achieve my ultimate goal of reaching the NBA. I just felt in my gut that this was the right move for me.

As far as recruiting, Dan Hurley has done an amazing job and is only going to get better. Above all, UConn has big things in the work, however we will have to wait until the 2021 class gets here. Things are starting to get exciting in Storrs and if you cant see that by what is already going on then you must be blind. In addition the best part off all of this is that it feels like a big middle finger to the AAC. Get ready UConn Nation, we have big things coming our way!
