Isaac Okoro, Cavaliers agree to three-year deal

Restricted free agent Isaac Okoro agreed to a three-year, $38 million deal to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski first reported Saturday.

According to HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto, his deal will include bonuses tied to team success. Per Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, he will have $33 million in guaranteed money, thus suggesting that his bonuses will be worth the remaining $5 million.

Okoro, 23, was one of the top free agents available on the market. Cleveland offered him the $11.8 million qualifying offer to keep his RFA rights while reportedly offering him a multi-year deal.

The former No. 5 overall pick has been one of the team’s primary starting forwards since he entered the league in 2020. Last year, he averaged 9.4 points on 49.0 percent shooting, including 39.1 percent from deep and 67.9 percent from the free-throw line across 69 games (42 starts).

He’s consistently improved as a 3-point shooter throughout his career, specifically from the corner. His above-the-break 3-point percentage, specifically, spiked last season, improving to 38.7 percent after knocking down just 26.6 percent on ATB 3s over his first three seasons.

Not to mention, Okoro thrives on the defensive end guarding opposing wings. That was his bread-and-butter trait out of Auburn, and he’s more than improved that particular facet of his game since entering the NBA. He’s a 3-and-D player worth investing in, especially at that price.
