Joe Harris retires after 10 NBA seasons

After 10 seasons, sharpshooter Joe Harris has officially retired from the NBA, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic was first to report Thursday.

At the time of this publishing, Harris, who turns 33-years-old on Sept. 6, has not confirmed his retirement.

Harris most recently played for the Detroit Pistons, appearing in only 16 games with the franchise. He totaled 39 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, three steals and two blocks, knocking down 14 of his 39 shots and 10 of his 30 3-pointers.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 33 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He spent two seasons in Cleveland before getting traded the Orlando Magic, where he was subsequently waived. He spent the next seven years with Brooklyn before getting traded to Detroit last offseason.

Harris was waived from the Pistons on Feb. 8, the day of the trade deadline, without getting signed.

In 10 seasons, he averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists, shooting 47.9 percent from the floor, 43.6 percent from 3-point range (4.7 3PA; 59.6 3PAr) and 77.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Harris led the NBA in qualified 3-point percentage twice in 2018-19 (47.4 percent) and 2020-21 (47.5 percent), respectively. Over a six-year span from 2017-23, he posted 12.1 points on 44.6 percent from beyond the arc, where he attempted 58.8 percent of his field goal attempts; his 44.6 3-point percentage is an NBA-best over that span (min. 2000 3PA), over three percentage points than the next-best (Stephen Curry — 41.5 percent, 3,550 3PA).

Best of luck with your future endeavors, Joe.
