Samson Ebukam led the Colts in sacks a year ago. Indianapolis will get zero sacks out of Ebukam this year as his season is over before it ever got off the ground. Ebukam tore his Achilles at practice and is done for the 2024 NFL Season.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Ebukam, 29, notched a career-high 9.5 sacks last year for the Colts. It was his first year in Indy after four years with the Rams and two for the 49ers. He also had 57 tackles and three forced fumbles in 2023.
The positive news is the Colts actually have too much depth at pass rusher. It might even make their cut decisions easier. Something we talked about at great length in the training camp piece I wrote up. Indy still has Kwity Paye, Laiatu Latu, Tyquan Lewis, Dayo Odeyingbo, Isaiah Land, and Genard Avery to work with at pass rusher.
Latu, in particular, is going to be relied upon sooner than expected. Chris Ballard better put his money where his mouth is because nobody who actually has a brain would pick a guy who medically retired in the first round. Except that’s the world we live in somehow. The pressure will be on Latu to produce now that Ebukam has been lost for the season. There is no other way to interpret it.
Bad news… Gus Bradley is still the defensive coordinator and the defense will probably suck regardless of this injury news.
