ESPN MNF Booth Settles for Griese, Levy and Riddick

The ESPN MNF Booth swung for the fences when they tried to go after Tony Romo with a massive offer of $140 million for 10 years. It failed as Romo signed a massive extension with CBS. ESPN then tried to secure Drew Brees once his playing years were done, they got curved again as Brees signed with NBC. Now it seems ESPN has finally decided to settle on a crew for their Monday Night Football booth.

According to the New York Post, ESPN’s MNF Booth will consist of Brian Griese, Steve Levy, and Lous Reddick. It’s safe to say that this will be an upgrade from the failure that was Booger McFarland, Joe Tessitore and Jason Witten. While Booger memes may be gone, ESPN’s MNF booth will be a major improvement and could help them secure a Super Bowl in their next contract.

This move also does not mean that ESPN’s MNF booth won’t get some big-name players as there are multiple options down the road. It is entirely possible for Philip Rivers to retire and then enter the booth. If we look further down the road Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlisberger could be viable options for ESPN’s MNF booth in a few years. Peyton Manning could be an option if he ever wants to go into broadcasting, though he’s made no indication that he actually wants to. Other in-house candidates would include Dan Orlovsky and maybe even Kirk Herbstreit even though it is highly unlikely that he would ever leave college football.

While no big-name star will be in the ESPN MNF booth, they took the check down after throwing deep failed multiple times. Sometimes you have to take what you can get, and live to see another down and that’s just what this ESPN MNF booth is. Future improvements are entirely possible but don’t get your hopes up.
