It seems that the Jacksonville Jaguars simply can’t catch a break. First they almost completely blow up their team in the off-season, Yannick Ngakoue wants out and now their promising second year quarterback Gardner Minshew lands himself on the Covid-19 list, per Ian Rapoport.
Gardner Minshew made his debut in week 1 of the 2019 season against the Kansas City Chiefs. Minshew was thrust into action when quarterback Nick Foles, now with the Chicago Bears, got injured. The Jacksonville Jaguars traded Nick Foles to the Bears because Gardner Minshew threw for 3271 yards, 21 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 14 games. It is worth noting that Minshew did not start all 14 games. Nick Foles will now be battling it out with Mitch Trubisky to be the Bears QB1.
Gardner Minshew instantly became a fan favourite and it seems the entire Jaguars fan base is behind the jorts lover and I can’t blame them. Minshew is the guy you want to root for, he gives off this energy that makes people want to rally behind him. It’s easy to see why the Jacksonville Jaguars believe in Minshew and how he can potentially be their franchise quarterback after the failed Blake Bortles experiment.
However, saying the Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance at the playoffs this year is laughable. They have the Tennesse Titans fresh off an AFC Championship appearance, the Houston Texans still have Deshaun Watson and the Indianapolis Colts got better with the Philip Rivers signing. The Jaguars would be lucky to win 2 of their 6 divisional games in 2020. With a lack of fans at games in 2020, it’s hard to see Minshew’s effect on the fan base having any impact. Football this year will contain more pure football than before.
