Houston Texans 2020 Training Camp Preview

Last Modified: December 15, 2024

Houston Texans
Laremy Tunsil is the highest paid tackle. Now it’s time for him to play like it. Let’s preview the Houston Texans 2020 season! (Karen Warren/Houston Chronicle )

The Houston Bill O’Brien’s enter the season in a weird place. The O’Brien’s won the division last year but, of course, their coach-gm is tanking this roster unintentionally. Deshaun Watson will have to be a magician to get this team back in the dance in 2020. Let’s preview the Houston Texans 2020 season as training camp begins to open.

3 Position Battles To Watch:

Wide Receiver: Will Fuller, Brandin Cooks, Kenny Stills, Randall Cobb, Keke Coutee, DeAndre Carter

Without DeAndre Hopkins, who the hell knows how this wide receiver group shakes out. ALL of them have injury concerns. Here’s what we know. 150 targets are vacated from last year. Will any of them stay on the field long enough to make a significant impact?

Tight End: Darren Fells, Jordan Akins, Jordan Thomas, Kahale Warring

Darren Fells was a touchdown machine somehow last year out of nowhere. Fells caught 7 touchdowns. Jordan Thomas and Kahale Warring are just depth. Jordan Akins is the guy who can really be an X-Factor for this offense. Heading into year 3, it’s his time to shine or it’s never going to happen.

Nose Tackle: Eddie Vanderdoes vs Ross Blacklock

Losing DJ Reader via free agency is a huge blow to this defense. Houston is hoping that second round pick Ross Blacklock can fill those shoes. Eddie Vanderdoes is what he is. Just a guy who failed to live up to a lofty recruiting status. This Texans run defense could tank if Blacklock isn’t ready right away.

Ready To Breakout: Laremy Tunsil

Laremy Tunsil is the highest paid tackle in football. It’s his time to prove it. Tunsil was just above average last year giving up 18 penalties on the season. Houston’s offensive line as a hell was still a mess despite aquiring Tunsil. It’s time for him to become an anchor.

Rookie To Watch: Jonathan Greenard

Jonathan Greenard is the rookie I’m by far the most excited about on this team. In fairness, it wasn’t a prolific rookie class. Greenard has some talent and is quick off the edge. I preferred him to Jabari Zuniga. Houston needs more pass rushing help. Is Greenard the right man for the job?

Fantasy Sleeper: Duke Johnson

Are we sure that David Johnson is better than Duke Johnson? 5 years ago no. Right now? I’m not sure. I’m not going to be the guy that becomes fool me 4 times on David Johnson. Duke could easily be the better back here.
