Raiders Wanted Josh Jacobs To Return ‘On A Discount’

Josh Jacobs is onto greener pastures but not without a final offer from the Las Vegas Raiders. The former NFL rushing leader said on a podcast that he was offered a discount to stay “and lose.” After five years in Vegas, the former Alabama running back signed a four-year deal to play at Lambeau Field. “You do everything that you were asked of, but you still don’t get the result that you want. … And every year you be close, but it’s not winning,” Jacobs said on the “Green Light with Chris Long” podcast Thursday. “That was a big thing for me, too, man. Y’all want me to come back on a discount and lose. I don’t know how I feel about that.”

“Man, look, I got every Raider record since I’ve been here, basically. If y’all don’t have enough respect for me to sit me down and have a conversation, then we ain’t got nothing to talk about,” Jacobs said.

2023 was not Jacobs’ finest season but he is only a year removed from an All-Pro 2022 campaign. Off of 340 carries, he put up a league-leading 1,653 rushing yards, good for 97.2 yards per game over 17 appearances. That came with twelve touchdowns as well. He also contributed to the passing game in what was Derek Carr’s last year under center for the Raiders. On 53 receptions he put up an even 400 receiving yards.

Leaping Into Success

To say he is in a better situation would be a slight understatement. Jacobs is going from a pretty dysfunctional organization in the Raiders (at least recently), to a very stable group in the Packers. If he can stay healthy, he should be another weapon for an up-and-coming offense led by Jordan Love. He does have some shoes to fill in with Aaron Jones formerly being the starter. However, at 26-years-old, JJ is in prime position to put up more years like the one he had in 2022.

The Running Back market was a surprising element of the NFL offseason. Teams were not afraid to commit to terms with many players, and Jacobs was no exception. He received a $12.5 million signing bonus and a total of $48 million over four seasons.

Former Raiders running back Josh Jacobs peeled back the curtain about his free agency this past Winter. In what may not surprise some fans, the Raiders lowballed him on his way out of Las Vegas.
