As reported by Mac Cerullo of The Boston Herald, the Boston Red Sox are promoting former first-round pick Nick Yorke to Triple-A Worcester. Yorke was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. Over 45 games with Double-A Portland, the 22-year-old infielder slashed .251/.325/.366 with four home runs and 27 runs batted in. He is currently listed as the No. 17 prospect in Boston’s farm system by SoxProspects.
Can Yorke develop into a full-time second baseman for the major league club? Boston would certainly welcome that. Since Manny Machado slid into Dustin Pedroia’s knee at second base on April 21, 2017, here’s the full list of who the Red Sox have trotted out at second base:
It’s really been a revolving door at second base since Pedroia. Can Yorke solve that problem? He may not project to be an elite big league talent, but he at least possesses solid enough tools across the board to stick around as a serviceable everyday player. In any case, Yorke is now one step closer to The Show and has a new opportunity to prove himself in Worcester.
