Dave Goucher Says No To Bruins Return

Dave Goucher is one of the best play-by-play guys in the business. I watch a lot of hockey during the Fall and Goucher is unquestionably one of the best. If I ever get the time, I’m considering doing a power rankings post for all the NHL broadcast teams. If I ever do, Goucher will be high on that list. Also, shout out to the Oilers guy because he is the undisputed champ right now. He makes watching Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl regular season games so much more enjoyable.

Goucher, the current Golden Knights play-by-play announcer, used to work for the Bruins from 2000 to 2017. Goucher left his post with the Bruins as a radio play-by-play broadcaster for the VGK once the expansion draft happened.

Except now the Bruins need a new play-by-play guy. Jack Edwards, the worst broadcaster in the history of sports, thankfully retired this season. I thought about writing a post on Edwards’ retirement but it would have been a 10-minute hit piece on why the guy sucks so I decided against it. Instead, I’ll share the Awful Announcing link who did a decide job with it.

Chad Finn of the Boston Globe noted that the Bruins wanted Goucher to be the Jack Edwards replacement. Goucher has decided he will respectfully decline and will remain a member of the Golden Knights.

“Goucher enjoys his job in Las Vegas, but he and his wife are New Englanders who still spend their summers in Rhode Island. He would be the ideal choice, and hopefully the Bruins and NESN will make him an offer worthy of his talents.”

How can you blame Goucher? The vibe in Vegas right now is awesome and the team is fun as hell to follow. They’re in the mix basically every single year and are basically the most winning expansion franchise to ever exist. Why would he ever consider leaving?

If the Bruins were smart, they would have given Goucher the main job while he was still in their system years ago.

The good news is regardless of who the Bruins replace Jack Edwards with, it’s hard to do worse.
