Todd Monken Reveals Carry Number He Envsions For Derrick Henry With Ravens

Derrick Henry is the new lead dog in the backfield for the Ravens. However, we’re not totally positive how Baltimore is going to use him yet. Henry is best used in a single I with the quarterback under center. Will Lamar be under center more this year? Furthermore, how many carries do they plan on giving the big fella? Well… offensive coordinator Todd Monken revealed a big piece of information fantasy football owners will want to hear.

Monken is targeting 300 carries for Henry heading into the 2024-25 NFL Season:

“I know this: If (Henry) carries it 300 times, we’re having a helluva year,” Monken recently said, according to team reporter Ryan Mink. “It means we’re running it a lot. It means we’re up in games. We want him to finish, (and) we want him to be the closer.”

“First and foremost, like every player, we want him to make it through the season. It’s a long season – 17 games,” Monken added. “So, we’ll see how that goes. I mean, he’s been so durable.”

300 carries is a big number. The former Titans running back had 280 a season ago. His career high is 378 back in 2020. Most backs cannot handle this type of workload, especially for a back that’s about to enter age 30. If anybody can do it, it’s the King.

It’s important to note that lightning rod Keaton Mitchell won’t be ready for the start of the season after suffering an injury late last season. JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards left for the Chargers. With that in mind, Henry is going to be a pivotal part of the offense. Justice Hill is the only other notable running back on the roster.

“I thought we did a good job last year of rotating the backs. I mean, Gus was powerful, but we split the reps,” Monken said. “Now, we had Keaton (Mitchell), who came on, and we had Justice (Hill) and those guys, but I still anticipate the same – of using all of our backs (and) trying to put them in the best position to be successful.”
