Michael Hall Jr 2024 NFL Draft Profile

This 2024 NFL Draft class has multiple positions that are stacked. Off the bat, Wide Receiver and Offensive Line come to mind, but I believe Defensive Tackle has a ton of great players. One of my favorites in the class is Ohio State’s Michael Hall Jr. After crushing the Senior Bowl, he should be on everyone’s radar. What does his draft profile look like? Let’s talk about it.

Hall was a starter the last two years at Ohio State, starting in 12 games each year. Across 679 snaps, Hall would end up with seven sacks, nine QB hits, and 29 hurries, including an outstanding 22 last season. Hall mostly lined up in the B-gap, but has played at A-gap as well as even going out over tackle.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of the draft profile on Michael Hall Jr., I think it needs to be stated how young he is. When he walks into an NFL locker room for training camp, he will have JUST turned 21. Keep that in mind when we go over all of the tools that he has. This kid has gobs of potential, waiting to be developed.

Hall might be slightly undersized (6’3, 290) but plays like a freight train. He is so strong in his upper body that he can stand up most linemen he’s matched up with. But the lower body is as strong, showing great drive and leg churn to keep pushing forward. With smaller size comes greater speed. Hall has great closing speed once he disengages from his linemen to get out and track down a running back. He’s got some twitch to him too which is a plus. If he is able to throw on a few pounds of pure mass, he could be legit.

I think the hips could open up a bit more. When he tries to disengage, the hips never feel like they’re coming with they just want to stay put. The size might be a concern to some, not really a huge deal for me. I’d like to see him work on lane-filling techniques in run defense. Hall is good against the pass but can improve against the run.

I also have a bit of a crush on Michael Hall Jr. I think he has done a great job pre-draft showing off all the skills he has, and the mounds of potential he carries with him. Hall gets a second-round grade from me, and I think I could use a top-50 pick on him and be just fine with it. He’s not necessarily a sleeper by any means, but he is someone that definitely deserves more eyes on him.
