Former New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills running back Damien Harris has announced his retirement on social media. Harris played four seasons with the Patriots and a single season with the Bills.
“For the past 20 years, playing the great game of football has been one of the greatest privileges in my life,” Harris wrote in a social media post.
“Getting to represent the name on the back of my jersey on and off the field, getting to compete at the highest level with and against the best competitors while winning championships, and being coached by the 2 greatest head coaches of all time in Nick Sanban and Bill Belichick are all just a small part of what God has done in my life with the game of football.”
Damien Harris was drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 87th overall pick after playing four seasons of college football with the University of Alabama. In four seasons with New England, Harris played in 38 games registering 2094 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 40 receptions for 281 yards.
Harris would find himself with AFC East rivals Buffalo Bills for the 2023-24 season after signing a one-year deal. Harris would only play in six games and get 94 rushing yards and 1 touchdown, due to suffering a neck injury.
Quarterback Mac Jones congratulated Harris on his retirement, as the players were teammates at the University of Alabama and for the New England Patriots.
“All love Soaq. So glad the game of football connected us at Alabama. 4L!!!! Congrats brother, next challenge accepted!!!”
