Aaron Donald Announces Retirement

That’s all she wrote for Aaron Donald. One of the greatest players to ever play the game is hanging up the cleats for good. Donald, a Super Bowl champion two years ago, is a sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer and has announced his retirement from the NFL today.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news:

Donald, 32, retires after 10 NFL Seasons. The Rams first round pick in 2014 made an immediate impact winning DROY honors that season. Ever since, he’s pretty much been the best defensive tackle in football. The site didn’t exist back then but Donald was unbelievable during the Senior Bowl got picked 13th overall in large part because of it despite being undersized.

The list of accolades are endless. We know he’s going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Donald is just one of three players in NFL history to win DPOY. The other two are Lawrence Taylor and JJ Watt. If that’s not a Hall of Fame player, I don’t know what is.

Aaron Donald Has Nothing Left To Prove

How do you replace a guy like this? I’m not sure you can. The former Pitt product finishes his career with 543 tackles and 111 sacks. A ton of production from an interior defensive line position. Donald likely could have kept playing for another five years if he wanted to. Regardless, he goes out with a Super Bowl ring and nothing left to prove. Cheers to a hell of a career. One that shouldn’t be forgotten.
