Patrick Mahomes is probably smiling ear to ear. Marquise Brown is on his way to Kansas City and the Chiefs finally have a real deep threat again. The former Ravens and Cardinals wide receiver has signed a one year deal with the Chiefs in free agency. The deal is worth $11 million.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news:
Brown, 26, had his best NFL Season back in 2021 when he hauled in 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. The 91 receptions and 1,008 yards remain career highs. Baltimore ended up trading Brown on draft day for a day selection that became Tyler Linderbaum. A trade the Ravens likely don’t regret.
The last two years in Arizona were pretty underwhelming. Over the last two years with the Cardinals, Brown notched 118 receptions for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns. It’s safe to say the Cardinals weren’t exactly a great situation either.
The man known as Hollywood now joins an offense where he seems to be a pretty logical fit on paper. Brown is the deep threat where he joins the likes of Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce. Skyy Moore is still on the team but we know he sucks. Kansas City did lose Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Otherwise, Brown slots in and should be a featured weapon to target.
Personally, this feels like a pretty smart signing. For a one year deal, how do you hate it? Brown has talented and was drafted in the first round for a reason. He brings real speed to the table and Mahomes should be able to create big plays with him down the field.
