Taylor Lewan Didn’t Get Good “Vibe” From Caleb Williams

Former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan says he didn’t get a good “vibe” from Caleb Williams at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Quote via Taylor Lewan and Will Compton’s “Bussin With The Boys” podcast:

One guy that, this is up for everybody else to interpret, but I did not get a good vibe from Caleb Williams throughout the combine process,” Lewan said. “I know, a lot of backlash for the boy. He essentially came to the combine for the free gear and the interviews.”

Only player in combine history not to do a medical review. Only dude [who] didn’t run, didn’t throw. His choosing not to throw was, ‘Hey there’s a lot of film on me, you can watch that in real action. I don’t need to do that.’”

Williams, who is considered the top quarterback in this year’s draft class, wasn’t the only quarterback not to throw at the NFL Combine, as Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels also opted out of throwing.

Not throwing at the NFL Combine is not out of the usual for quarterbacks. Joe Burrow declined to throw at the 2020 Combine and eventually went first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Cincinnati Bengals, which seems to be the same case with Caleb Williams.

While not throwing at the NFL Combine, Williams will throw at USC’s Pro Day.

What is out of the usual is Williams declining to participate in the medical examinations at the Combine, which would be a first to happen. This could concern some teams about William’s health, but appears to have no impact on him going first overall.

Besides the top three quarterbacks on many draft analyst big boards, there were some QBs that did participate in throwing the ball. Such as J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., and more. Participating in the throwing could help these QBs boost their draft stock.
