Seahawks release Jamal Adams, Quandre Diggs
The Seattle Seahawks are planning to release defensive backs Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was among the first to report Tuesday. The deal will save the Seahawks a total of $27.5 million of cap space, Pelissero notes.
Both moves have been made official by the organization, in addition to Seattle waiving tight end Will Dissly.
Adams, 28, was set to have a $26.9 million cap hit this year ($16.5 million base salary) with a $10.4 million cap hit in 2025 ($17.5M base), the final year of his contract, per Spotrac. Instead, he will have a $20.8 million cap hit, saving $6.1 million, in 2024 no dead money in 2025.
Adams is a three-time pro-bowler and a three-time All-Pro honoree, all of which came from 2018-20. He’s only played in 10 combined games over the last two seasons after tearing his quad in 2022 and dealt with knee troubles throughout 2023, never truly getting back into form.
For his career, he’s tallied 494 combined tackles and 50 tackles-for-loss across 80 games, adding four interceptions (one pick-six), seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries, having just two productive seasons over his four-year tenure there.
As for Diggs, the Seahawks, he was entering his final year of a three-year, $39 million deal with a $21.3 million cap hit ($10.5M base salary) in 2023. The Seahawks will save $11 million with $10.3 million in dead money, per Spotrac. In 2023, Diggs, a three-time Pro Bowler, tallied 95 tackles, five pass deflections with one interception. In 137 career games with the Detroit Lions and Seahawks, the 31-year-old has 580 combined tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss, 56 pass breakups, 24 interceptions–including 14 from 2020-2022–five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Presumably, Julian Love, who got plenty of run amid Adams’ injuries, will claim one of the two empty safety spots with others in question–with the likely frontrunner being third-year defensive back Coby Bryant.
