Doug Williams: Dwayne Haskins Has Best Arm Talent In Last Two Drafts
The Redskins are all in on Dwayne Haskins this year. That was pretty obvious when they pulled the trigger on Chase Young number two overall and passing on the other quarterbacks in the draft. Washington Senior VP of Player Development Doug Williams spoke very highly of Haskins and I mean VERY.
“I don’t care who came out this year, last year, there’s not a quarterback that’s come out in the last two years that has the ability — from an arm strength standpoint and arm talent — that Dwayne Haskins has,” Williams said on 106.7 The Fan, via NBC Washington.
“Dwayne can throw with the best of them,” Williams said. “Now mentally, he has to control the other part, and I think he has aligned himself and realized that’s what he has to do, and I think that’s what he’s doing. I think at the end of the day, give him the opportunity to do what everybody is doing, and that is to improve upon his game.”
Just for some background. Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Herbert would be the group of quarterbacks Williams is comparing Haskins to. From an arm strength standpoint, I don’t think it’s super crazy. I would say Drew Lock has the best cannon of that group with Kyler being a super close second just from watching. Haskins has a big arm on him too though.
More so than anything, Haskins was put in such an unfair situation last year. I think it’s really unfair to judge him based on those circumstances. Obviously, 2020 will be a make or break sort of deal but it wouldn’t shock me at all if Haskins really performs well this year.
