Should The Bucks Hire Doc Rivers?
Doc Rivers was fired by the 76ers immediately after the 2022-23 NBA Season. What’s funny is that if you read the last paragraph of that post that’s linked, I connected the dots of Doc going to Milwaukee. Instead, the Bucks hired Adrian Griffin and Doc went to ESPN.
Now Griffin has shockingly been fired midseason and the Bucks are on the hunt for a new head coach again. It sounds like they have a name in mind…
Maybe Doc is the right fit for Milwaukee. He has ties to the area and went to Marquette. He also might be the right leader for this team. We know that Doc is more of an emotional leader rather than an X’s and O’s guy. Maybe that’s what the Bucks need. After all, Giannis is the team.
Then again, it’s hard to view Doc as a home run hire. Certainly not after his tenure in Philadelphia. Jarrod wrote a really nice write-up on Doc’s strengths and weaknesses as a coach. It would be hard to pretend that Doc is just going to be the savior for all the problems with the Bucks.
It’s worth noting that the Bucks also pushed Terry Stotts out the door too. Is Damian Lillard going to get any blame or are you guys going to keep pretending that Lame Time is a winning player? It’s not an accident the Bucks defense went from 4th to 22nd. That’s what happens when you dump Jrue Holiday. If Doc does get this job, he has to get this team to play better defense. That much is certain.
The trickiest part here might be prying Doc from ESPN. He just signed a deal there. Is he eager to leave that position for a place that just fired a coach for going 30-13 in year one on the job? Food for thought.
