Patrick Mahomes: It was ‘cool’ winning first true road playoff game against Bills

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was able to experience his first NFL playoff road win at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y., Sunday, downing the Bills in yet another classic Mahomes-Josh Allen battle in the AFC Divisional Round.

Mahomes has been in the playoffs every year since he became a starter for the Chiefs and has also been able to play every single playoff game of his career at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City’s home stadium, excluding the neutral-site Super Bowls.

Mahomes has now faced off against Allen three times in the playoffs, with the most recent duel being home-field advantage for Allen and company.

“I was very excited,” Mahomes said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “It was going to be a great environment being in here in Buffalo. I’d heard about it. Obviously, I played here but not with the fans. I knew the fans were going to be rowdy, going to be hostile. But you appreciate the greatness of organizations and going in week in and week out and packing the stadium and being fans.

“I obviously love playing at Arrowhead, but it is cool to go on the road for a playoff game and be able to come out to win this one.’’

The Chiefs were just able to scrape a win thanks to a 44-yard field goal miss from Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass with under two minutes left, which prevented the game from being tied at 27 that would’ve possibly led to overtime.

Despite home-field advantage, the Buffalo Bills weren’t able to prevent Kansas City from a 6th consecutive AFC Championship game. Josh Allen and the Bills have made just one AFC Title game (2020) under head coach Sean McDermott.

Patrick Mahomes’ road playoff wins can increase to two wins on Sunday, Jan. 28, when the Chiefs take on the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, M.D.
