Aidan O’Connell Is NOT The Raiders’ QB Of The Future
The Raiders did the right thing. They gave the keys to the franchise to Aidan O’Connell to see what he could do with it. It was the right move then. It’s still the right move now. If anything, it’s something that has been done sooner.
We just officially have our answer now. Heading into next season, O’Connell should NOT be considered as the QB of the future. If anything, we found out that he lowkey stinks.
In reality, it’s not anything new that we didn’t know already. I spelled out most of what you needed to know in the report from the Combine. The guy throws a good ball. He just can’t move at all and is too stiff in the lower half. It’s only going to get you so far at this level.
The raw numbers aren’t terrible. They’re just skewed in 900 different directions based on what game you watched. If you go to the Sports Reference link in the second paragraph, it’s pretty hard to ignore certain performances. His only two good performances are when the Chargers quit on Brandon Staley and against the Colts who can’t stop anybody.
Even some of the wins were ugly. 62 yards against the Chiefs. Lost 3-0 against the Vikings and literally couldn’t move the ball.
I’ll reiterate it again. The Raiders did the right thing giving O’Connell a chance. We just know for sure know that he’s not the long term answer. Maybe a nice backup but his inability to be more than a statue will likely prevent him from anything more.
