Colin Cowherd Doubts Jayson Tatum’s Title Window

Only seven years into his NBA career, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is regarded as one of the top players in the league. But will the former No. 3 pick ever win an NBA title? Media personality Colin Cowherd has no faith in the Celtics superstar ever winning one.

Cowherd has certainly had his opinions across all professional sports leagues in his career, but ruling out Tatum ever winning a championship is on another level. Tatum and the Celtics own the NBA’s best record at 27-7 record through 34 games, but they aren’t even playing lousy teams. Boston’s played the 11th-hardest strength of schedule thus far, behind teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors, among others, according to Power Rankings Guru.

Cowherd went as far as calling Tatum a “domestic player in the middle.” Almost calling him a mediocre player, putting him in a category with players like Anthony Edwards, Trae Young and Ja Morant. Cowherd followed up by questioning, “Will he ever get a title?” Here’s what he said.

“Tatum was not ready when he first got into the league,” Cowherd said. “He wasn’t as good as LeBron, He wasn’t as good as Steph when he entered the league. Now he’s not as good as the young guard.”

What I have to say: Absolutely, Tatum will get one. In fact, I could double down and say that the Celtics will win the title this year if they’re fully healthy. With a fully loaded squad with Derrick White, Kristaps Porziņģis, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown and Tatum, they’re almost unbeatable. This might be the most loaded team the NBA has seen since the 2017-18 Golden State Warriors.

Well, Colin. If a player is as good as Stephen Curry or LeBron James when they enter the league, that would be downright psychotic. A player entering the league as good as both of them hasn’t happened and I doubt it ever will.

Tatum was certainly close to a championship two years ago, but instantly taking him out of the conversation after his team got undoubtedly better is an awful take.

Do you agree or disagree with Cowherd? Will the Celtics win the championship this year? Let us know in the comments down below.
