Chris Russo claims to have lost around $100,000 in sports bets

It’s been a rough few months for Chris “Mad Dog” Russo. He made headlines after he claimed to retire if the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies and advanced to the World Series. The latter happened, but what didn’t come was his retirement. I don’t think anybody expected it, but he was still the butt of a lot of jokes and criticism on social media during that time.

But for Russo, his decision not to retire may have been a very smart one–at least when you learn about how much money he has lost betting on sports.

On an episode of First Take on Wednesday, Russo talked about a “huge” parlay he had that didn’t hit. The frustrating part is he says he lost on the last leg, which was under 48.5 points in the Houston/Jacksonville game, which lost thanks to a failed Jaguars goal-line conversion and a missed 58-yard field goal by Matt Ammendola that bounced off the bottom bar.

It was a tough beat that clearly had Chris Russo upset. He then went on to talk about how he’s lost a lot of money betting sports but didn’t give an exact amount. His co-hosts, Molly Qerim, Marcus Spears and Stephen A. Smith, were immediately curious and asked him to give an exact amount.

They eventually guessed somewhere in between $50,000 and $100,000, which Russo admitted was likely accurate but that he didn’t know exactly what the number was; my guess is it’s somewhere closer to that $100,000.

Luckily for Russo, losses like this don’t affect him quite like they do the average person. He claims to make $10,000 a week from ESPN and likely makes more at Sirus XM, where he hosts his Mad Dog Show, which combined should be more than enough to fund an unhealthy addiction like this.

I know a lot of us out there love to bet on our sports, myself included. The difference is a lot of us don’t have the luxury of being able to lose $100,000 and still sleep at night. Chris Russo is one of those people, and I predict he will continue to lose money on sports bets.

Can someone start leaking his picks to the public though? Would be nice to have someone to fade picks on the daily. Maybe then I can start actually making money on this as well.
