Richard Sherman Isn’t Sold On Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars just took a massive 34-3 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, and former cornerback Richard Sherman doesn’t think Lawrence is living up to the hype.

So when I make an assessment that Trevor Lawrence hasn’t been the generational talent he was billed to be coming out of Clemson, Jags fans were up in arms. The tape doesn’t lie,” Sherman wrote on X. “The team has won because the defense has gotten turnovers.”

The 2021 No. 1 overall pick wasn’t great his first year, throwing for 3,641 yards, 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. However, Urban Meyer’s horrible coaching that year was most likely more of the issue than Lawrence actually was.

In 2022, Lawrence showed why he was the top overall selection. With Doug Pederson at his side, Lawrence threw for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions while leading the Jaguars to the divisional round in the playoffs and earning his first Pro Bowl.

While 2023 hasn’t been horrible, it hasn’t been great.

At this point Trevor Lawrence has more turnovers than TDs on the season,” Sherman added. “Despite that his team has been winning. He has all the talent in the world however that has not been showcased consistently.

I’m waiting on this fantastic Trevor that apparently I have been missing to show up.”

Currently, Lawrence has nine touchdowns to six interceptions and seven fumbles. In San Francisco, he had a really rough day at the office.

The 24-year-old completed 17-of-29 pass attempts for 185 yards, a pair of interceptions and a lost fumble. The 49ers’ defense overwhelmed the Jags’ offensive line, resulting in five sacks and forcing Lawrence to run for his life.

I think you have got to feel the pain and embarrassment of today,” Lawrence said. “It’s terrible. It’s one of the worst games I’ve probably played in my career. … We couldn’t do anything right, but you got to flush it, too.”

The performance prompted Sherman, a five-time All-Pro and a current analyst for Fox Sports and Amazon Prime Video, to wonder about the genuine whereabouts of Lawrence.
