Andre Iguodala named new acting executive director for NBPA
Recently retired NBA veteran Andre Iguodala is expected to be named the executive director of the National Basketball Player’s Association, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic reported this week. Though according to the press release sent out by NBPA, Iguodala will serve as the “acting executive director”–thus making this a temporary role for an undetermined amount of time.
Regardless, he is expected to take over the role for Tamika Tremaglio, who is reportedly stepping down after over two years on the job (she assumed the position in Sept. of 2021).

“I am honored to take on this role and serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” Iguodala said in a statement. “I’m presented with a unique opportunity to take all that I’ve learned as a player over the course of my 19-year career and apply it to creating an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players. I am thrilled to work alongside our extremely committed Executive Committee to lead the brotherhood through its next stage of advancement and development.”
Iguodala retired this last offseason after spending 19 years in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat. He won four titles–all with the Warriors–in addition to one All-Star appearance, two All-Defensive team appearances and the 2014-15 NBA Finals MVP.
“Having a former player lead as Executive Director of the union is an exciting proposition,” said NBPA president and current New Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum. “We thank Tamika for her service and leadership throughout the CBA process and are thrilled to welcome Andre as Acting Executive Director.”
Iguodala, 39, has been on the executive committee for over a decade and could be an ideal candidate to take over as the full-time executive director once a formal search is conducted. He was known as one of the smartest players on the court and appears to be highly esteemed off the court across numerous roles.
