George Pickens is frustrated with Steelers
There has been lots of chatter surrounding George Pickens’ production, or lack thereof.
While he leads the team in targets (62), receptions (33), receiving yards (566) and touchdowns (3), Pickens had just who had just two receptions for negative yardage against the Tennesse Titans in Week 9 and has just three catches for 45 yards in the Steelers’ Week 10 win over Green Bay.
Pickens’ frustration is becoming visible–take leaving teammate Diontae Johnson after he caught a touchdown against Tennessee, for example.

Steelers starting quarterback Kenny Pickett has had a horrendous season so far. Pickett has a QBR of 36.2, ranking 28th (of 32 qualifiers) in the league. Pickens is likely upset with the poor play of his QB especially after the team went to a run-game-heavy script this week against the Packers. As long as Pickett keeps playing this way the passing game, Pittsburgh will struggle and likely keep George Pickens frustrated.
George Pickens did, however, post on social media, “free me,” but soon deleted it. Pickens eventually deleted all of his Steelers-related content from his social media accounts, though he recently downplayed the effect of his doing so.
“I don’t really mix social media and football together,” Pickens said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. “Clearing out my page. Not really too crazy. It got nothing to do with the Steelers at all.
“[Diontae] got a touchdown. We just engineered the victory, that’s all. I was happy, if anything.”
Teammates of George Pickens–such as Najee Harris and Diontae Johnson–have since approached Pickens regarding his frustration.
“I talked to George. I had a good talk with him,” Johnson said to reporters last week. “He understands. I understood where he was coming from. Nobody’s perfect, so you can’t knock him. He’s human so I didn’t think too much of the situation. I know where it was from. It was frustration from the game. Him doing what he did, yes there was a better way to go about the situation, but he felt like he had to handle it his way. … He understands. He’s moving forward from it. He’ll handle himself next time he gets in that situation.”
“They’re not going to let you be a game-wrecker,” Harris said last week. “They’re going to find ways to minimize that player. And when you find ways to minimize that player, it creates somebody else’s opportunity to eat. And that’s the part of the team.
“I was telling GP, it’s OK, there’s nothing wrong with being frustrated, it’s just how you handle things. Obviously, he’s a talented guy. Teams are going to do things to minimize him. But I was just telling him in the middle of the game too that you got to keep your composure.”
