Derrick Lewis arrested for allegedly driving 136 MPH

UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis was arrested in Houston, Texas, for allegedly driving 136 mph in a 50 mph zone, according to FOX 26 Houston.

FOX 26 Houston reported that Lewis was driving 136 mph in a red Lamborghini and making unsafe lane changes. It was alleged that school buses were present in the area of the incident.

Lewis was arrested for misdemeanor reckless driving and posted a $100 personal recognizance bond. The former UFC heavyweight title challenger is scheduled for a court date on Dec. 17.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 25, according to ESPN, just ten days before his main event at UFC Sao Paulo on Nov. 4.

Lewis will headline the UFC’s return to Sao Paulo alongside rising prospect Jailton Almeida. UFC officials told ESPN that the bout will take place as expected.

Curtis Blaydes was originally scheduled to fight Almeida at UFC Sao Paulo, but an injury forced him out of the bout. Lewis was the fighter that stepped in to take the fight.

Lewis is the UFC knockout king. The 38-year-old has 14 knockouts in the UFC which is the most in the promotion’s history. In total, he has a professional record of 27-11 with an 18-9 UFC record. At the moment, he is ranked No. 10 in the heavyweight division.

Lewis is coming off an impressive victory that saw him finish Marcos Rogerio de Lima in just 33 seconds. In that bout, Lewis proved he was still an electric knockout artist and became an even larger fan favorite. That win led to Lewis signing a new eight-fight deal with the UFC.

UFC Sao Paulo will go down Saturday on ESPN+. The main card will begin at 9 p.m. EST with the prelims kicking off the action at 6 p.m. EST.
