The Raiders Officially Hand The Keys To Aidan O’Connell
Credit to Mark Davis. It seems like he actually understood exactly what I was talking about a few days ago. The Raiders were a team stuck while accomplishing nothing. Davis must have had a hard look in the mirror because things are actually trending in a real direction now. Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels have been fired. Now the keys to the car have been handed to Aidan O’Connell.
“Jimmy Garoppolo, the offseason’s big-time acquisition, has been benched six starts into his tenure in Vegas, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Wednesday, per sources informed of the plans. The Raiders are expected to start rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this Sunday against the Giants and moving forward, Rapoport and Garafolo added.”
Give the Chickster credit. Not that this is an earth-shattering take, but he’s been screaming from the clouds that should have happened a long time ago. That sentiment has been echoed throughout out company Slack. I have O’Connell in fantasy so I’ve been expecting this move any week now. I’m surprised it’s taken this long. It was comedy hour that Brian Hoyer ever saw the field for this team this year.
O’Connell, 25, is in his first year in the league coming out of Purdue. He played very well in the preseason and deserves a shot to see if he can be the long term backup for this team.
Starting O’Connell is the correct decision for this franchise. If he sucks, it helps the Raiders get a better pick. If O’Connell thrives, you have a real asset at quarterback on a dirt cheap contract. It’s a win-win.
