Alex Rodriguez Is Upset The Yankees Haven’t Retired His Number

Does Alex Rodriguez deserve to have his number 13 retired by the New York Yankees? if you ask ARod, it shouldn’t even be a question. ARod is very upset about the fact that the organization hasn’t retired his number.

ARod thinks the only reason it hasn’t been retired is the fact that he’s on TV and gets paid to speak the truth. Sometimes that means criticizing the Yankees on decisions they make.

“I’m too critical to the Yankees, and that doesn’t help my case,” Rodriguez told WFAN’s “Evan & Tiki” on Thursday. “But I get paid to tell the truth. … I want my number retired. If it’s not retired, so be it.

“Yeah, of course it bothers me. It’s less about bother, but of course it would be nice to be recognized in one of the coolest places to be in Yankee history, but that’s not my decision.”

He also admitted that it drove him nuts watching that bum Joey Gallo wear his number.

“It did not make me happy,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez, 48, notched 351 home runs with 1,096 RBIs and a .900 OPS over 12 seasons with the Yankees. He also made the All-Star team seven times and won two MVPs. Had ARod played his entire career with the Yankees, it would obviously be a no-brainer. Of course, this doesn’t include the ridiculous numbers he put up in Texas.

Let us know in the comments. Do you believe ARod should have his number retired by the Yankees? I’ll say this. The fact that the Yankees haven’t won another World Series since he was on the team certainly helps his argument. ARod, of course, was part of that 2009 team which represents the last real year of George Steinbrenner too.
