2023 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 3

Oh, how time flies! We are already nearing the end of September as we enter Week 3 of the 2023 NFL Season. That means it’s time to reveal possible Fantasy Football breakout candidates for the upcoming week, whether they’re on the waiver wire or stashed on your bench. But first, let’s see how we did in Week 2!

Pretty solid week! Let’s build off it! Now let’s examine who are Week 3 Fantasy Football breakouts are!

Kendre Miller, RB, Saints

After missing the first two weeks with a hamstring injury, Miller, a rookie, is expected to be in action in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers. Week 3 marks the final game of Alvin Kamara‘s three-game suspension, and Jamaal Williams will likely miss this week due to injury. Miller, a third-round pick, is fully practicing and will likely split touches with bruiser Tony Jones Jr. against a Packers defense that’s a bottom-five unit on the ground. In deep leagues, I like this play a lot.

Elijah Mitchell, RB, 49ers

Once again, we’re dipping our toes into the “This player’s usage was uncharacteristically low, and now the team is recognizing it, so he’s almost surely going to get more action Thursday, right?” pool similar to Swift last week! Christian McCaffrey will still receive most of the touches, but Mitchell did not see the field last week after playing just 10 snaps in Week 1. He’s not a player you should start, but he’s due for a game with 8-10-plus touches against a suboptimal Giants defense.

Deshaun Watson, QB, Browns

Watson has been a below-average (fantasy) quarterback through two weeks, but could Week 3 be an opportunity to break out? I believe so. While the Titans have an excellent run defense, their pass defense continues to struggle. Cleveland currently ranks No. 25 in pass percentage (51.0%), but in lieu of Nick Chubb‘s season-ending injury, I’m expecting an uptick of Cleveland airing the ball out–especially in early downs. This is a good spot to get the ball rolling for Watson, who hasn’t completely found his groove yet post-suspension.

Gerald Everett, TE, Chargers

Everett has only five catches for 68 yards through two weeks. Brian Flores’ defense has blitzed more than any team in football after being ultra-conservative under Ed Donatell, so more check-down opportunities could be available for Everett without Austin Ekeler. The Vikings’ back seven is very inexperienced, and combine that with the Chargers’ potent offense, expect a ton of fireworks in U.S. Bank Stadium.

Javonte Williams, RB, Broncos

Williams, coming off a torn ACL, has logged 31 total touches and 115 yards from scrimmage in two games, so he’s still getting his feet wet. The Dolphins have been a middling defense, and in a desperation spot for the Broncos, I’m expecting the Broncos to take more pressure off Russell Wilson‘s shoulders. Neither Williams nor Perine have found the endzone yet, and I’m expecting that to change in Week 3.
