Tua Tagovailoa claims Miami is ‘ready for a championship’

Following a hot 2-0 start to the season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the team seem to have the bar set pretty high. The bar of course is the return of the Lombardi Trophy to the city of Miami.

“It gives all of us on this team a lot of pride,” Tagovailoa said Wednesday. “We feel that the city of Miami has been waiting, and they’re ready for a championship. You look at the (Miami Heat), the Florida Panthers, all those guys were able to make it to the final dance. And they were able to do special things throughout their seasons. We’re trying along that line to follow the lead of those guys.”

One thing that’s certain is that it’s been quite a while since the Dolphins won a Super Bowl; you would have to go all the way back to 1973 when Hall of Famers Bob Griese and Larry Csonka led them to the promised land.

Their last AFC Title game was back in 1992, marking a 31-year span of not even sniffing a Super Bowl. The point is, it’s been a lot of losing in Miami over the years but Tua and this explosive offense give reason for hope.

They head one of the best receiver rooms in the league headed by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle; Hill is currently on pace to exceed 2,000 yards, en route to fulfilling his preseason prediction.

If Tagovailoa can stay healthy, there is no reason why this Dolphins team can’t be a serious contender in the AFC. It’s no easy task with the Bills and Chiefs in your way, but I think he is starting to show everyone he can hang with those guys. Just a matter of avoiding injury with him really.

The defense could also be shored up a bit, as they still give up a fair amount of points. While it’s a small sample size, it still doesn’t look great right now. Plenty of time to address that and if the Dolphins can, they can become really scary in the AFC.

Then maybe, just maybe they really can bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Miami. The city sure could use it.
