Brock Lesnar’s once-rumored deal with Tony Khan

Former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will go down as one of the most decorated wrestlers in company history, but could ‘The Beast Incarnate’ have joined Tony Khan and AEW when he had the chance?

Lesnar and World Wrestling Entertainment go together like peanut butter and jelly, so it’s hard to imagine him in any other promotion. However, Brock is actually in his third official run with the company having already departed twice. His first departure came in 2004, which led to Brock trying his hand at a variety of things, including Football, MMA and Japanese wrestling before returning to WWE in 2012.

In 2020, Lesnar‘s WWE contract expired after WrestleMania 36, and he eventually decided to retire from the sport. But during this time, another promotion burst onto the scene with money, a TV deal and a lot of momentum: All Elite Wrestling. This ultimately led to discussions on social media as to whether Brock could join AEW at some point, and while it never ended up materialising, it could have happened.

Brock Lesnar had a deal, but was it with Tony Khan?

Back in 2021, someone on Wrestling Observer Newsletter message board was told by a “reliable 20-year source” that Brock Lesnar had signed a deal with a company outside of WWE. With the likes of CM Punk and Bryan Danielson already rumored to be on their way to AEW, people immediately jumped to the conclusion that the deal was with Tony Khan and All Elite Wrestling.

However, these rumors were squashed rather quickly by Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast. Zarian stated that Lesnar was not signing with AEW, although both Brock and Tony Khan had spoken briefly in the past, but nothing in terms of a contract was discussed.

Lesnar would eventually return to WWE in August 2021, coming out of retirement to re-ignite his feud with Roman Reigns at that year’s Summerslam, and is still with World Wrestling Entertainment to this day. As for Tony Khan and AEW, they have signed a whole host of top performers, who all played a part in All Elite Wrestling putting over 81,000 people in Wembley Stadium for their All In event in August 2023.
