DeMarcus Ware to join Cowboys Ring of Honor
It’s been a great month for DeMarcus Ware. Earlier in August, Ware was officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has announced that the former game wrecker will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor.
DeMarcus Ware is a rare combination of physical gifts, and also high, high, high, mental and moral character,” Jerry Jones said when enshrining Ware into the Hall of Fame. “You combine those things, and you have one of the rarest football players that have ever played this game.”
Ware was indeed rare. During his nine-year span with the Cowboys, Ware became the all-time team leader in sacks with 117. He also had 576 tackles, 145 tackles for loss, 185 QB hits, 32 forced fumbles, two interceptions and 23 passes defended.
As far as accolades go, Ware is no stranger to them. He won Rookie of the Year, was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, a four-time First Team All-Pro, and a nine-time Pro Bowler. He’s also a Super Bowl 50 champion, but he won the Lombardi Trophy with the Denver Broncos.
At the age of 41, Ware is set to be included as the 20th player on the AT&T Stadium facade.
It leaves Jones and legendary head coach Jimmy Johnson as the team’s only Hall of Famers not in the Ring of Honor. Jones went into the Pro Football of Fame in 2017, and Johnson earned a spot in Canton in 2020.
