WWE Legend’s son facing 45 years in jail

Both the legacies of this WWE Hall of Famer and his son could be forever tarnished if he’s found guilty of these serious charges.

Ted DiBiase Sr. is best known for his lengthy run with WWE as the Million Dollar Man, and he’d additionally sport a championship to portray this. Years after his retirement in 2007, his son Ted DiBiase Jr. joined the promotion and allied himself with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes as The Legacy. Unfortunately, his run eventually fizzled out, and by 2013 he parted ways with the promotion.

Since his WWE departure, DiBiase Jr. has been wrestling on the Independent circuit, but in May 2022 the Mississippi Department of Human Services sued the family. The lawsuit includes both DiBiase Sr. and Jr., as well as Brett DiBiase. The lawsuit alleges that the family wasted over $20 million from an anti-poverty program.

However, in DiBiase Jr.’s case, he’s being accused of money laundering, wire fraud, and theft related to federal funds. If found guilty, the former WWE Superstar could face 45 years in prison and a fine of one million dollars. DiBiase Jr. has since pleaded not guilty to all charges, and will appear in court on August 14, 2023.

Who was Ted DiBiase Jr.’s last opponent in WWE?

After the disillusionment of The Legacy faction in 2010, DiBiase Jr. began a singles run as the Million Dollar Champion, like his father before him. The star would eventually have the belt stolen from him by Goldust, who returned the belt to DiBiase Snr. But, when asked if the belt should be returned to him, he instead set his sights on the WWE United States Championship.

Unfortunately, his title aspirations were squandered by injuries, and even a new gimmick couldn’t help him regain the lost momentum. Ted DiBiase’s final televised WWE match was against fellow third-generation star, Michael McGillicutty–son of the late Curt Hennig. A bout of depression and anxiety led to him choosing not to renew his contract, and he later took his skills to the Independent Circuit.
