Vladimir Tarasenko on joining Ottawa Senators: ‘I’m very excited to be a part of it’

Only a week after signing with the Ottawa Senators, Vladimir Tarasenko already seems happy with his new team. The veteran forward says that he is very happy to be a part of the new team.

The hockey world went ballistic last season when Tarasenko joined the New York Rangers during the NHL trade deadline. Only a few months later, the Russian winger is headed a little north to join the Ottawa Senators.

“I like that it’s a young team, very hungry to win,” Tarasenko said Tuesday, according to theScore. “With the ownership change and talking to the coach and to the general manager and to the guys, it sounds like they really, really want to win and take the next step and I’m very happy to be a part of it.”

After joining the squad, Senators general manager Pierre Dorion gave the newly signed 31-year-old some high praise.

“Vladimir’s a natural goal scorer,” said Dorion via release. “He’s a dynamic player who can score from anywhere in the offensive zone, as well as an underrated playmaker who’s made a career out of driving offence for he and his linemates. An established performer in the regular season and in the playoffs, we’re thrilled to add a player of his calibre to our lineup.”

In joining the Senators, Tarasenko automatically poises the threat of the Senators making the playoffs, something they haven’t done in six seasons.

“It’s very exciting when you have some challenges ahead of you,” he said. “I’m very excited to be a part of it and to maybe share my experience from what I’ve had in previous years and help a team take the next step, win more games, make the playoffs, and go from there.”

Last season, the Yaroslavl native posted 18 goals and 50 points in 69 games. Tarasenko has posted just over 570 points in his career in 675 games. Can the former All-Star right winger lead the Senators back to the playoffs for the first time since 2017? Let us know in the comments down below.
