Zack Moss Breaks Arm, Expected To Miss 6 Weeks
The Indianapolis Colts are gasping for air when it comes to their running back room. A few days ago, Jim Irsay publicly called out NFL running backs for trying to unionize, and Jonathan Taylor requested a trade. Now, running back Zack Moss has gone down with a broken forearm and is expected to miss six weeks, which means he will be expected to miss the start of the regular season, according to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo.
Moss was taking first-team reps with Taylor out of the building, and sustained a broken arm in Monday’s practice.
Taylor has been the latest running back who is extremely unhappy with the current market. Seeking a new contract, he requested a trade, but Colts owner Jim Irsay denied the team’s compliance.
The team has also expressed that they may place Taylor on the non-football injury list, even though he is already on the PUP list. However, Taylor denied that he is dealing with a back injury suffered while away from the team.
Moving Taylor to the non-football injury list would mean that the Colts could withhold any payment toward him for the 2023 season.
Moss, a career backup at the running back position, was picked up by the Colts in a trade with the Buffalo Bills on November 1, 2022. He played eight games after the deal and ran 76 times for 365 yards and a touchdown.
Now, Indianapolis will have to rely on Evan Hull, Deon Jackson, Zavier Scott or Jake Funk in the backfield until Taylor returns, unless they plan to sign a running back from the free-agent market–paging Dalvin Cook or Ezekial Elliott–or trade for one.
