Sean Casey Credits MLB Network For Landing Yankees Job

In case you have been living under a rock and just are enjoying the MLB All-Star festivities, you may have missed that Sean Casey is the new Yankees hitting coach. Casey replaces Dillon Lawson who previously held the position. Is Casey the right man for the job to fix the Yankees’ offense? The 12-year big league vet is crediting his work at MLB Network for helping him prepare for the job.

“I feel like that job at MLB Network has set me up in a way to be an incredible coach because I basically had been coaching for 15 years,” Casey said. “Every time I’m on air, and I’m watching games, and I’m having to break down players, guys that are hot guys that are struggling, what could they do?

“I feel like there’s nothing when I coach this team, there’s nothing that I don’t know about what the swing looks like from the ground up, what it looks like mentally to be a great big leaguer and to have success as a team up and down that lineup. So, MLB Network has made me feel ready for this job.”

It probably also helps that Casey and Aaron Boone were teammates in Cincinnati. It also helps that Casey was a dominant hitter during his time in the show. The man known as ‘The Mayor” sports a career batting average of .302 with 130 homers. The Yankees also pursued Casey in the offseason for an assistant role so this hire isn’t some big mystery that was magically sprung upon us.

It also doesn’t look like the Yankees are getting Aaron Judge back anytime soon so Casey will have his work cut out for him to fix this offense. Since Judge’s injury, the Yankees are batting a major league-worst .218.
