Saquon Barkley Threatening To Sit Out Without Extension?

Is Saquon Barkley really going to sit out Week 1? The Giants running back is crying up a storm over his contract situation? (Geoff Burke/USA TODAY Sports)

Saquon Barkley Threatening To Sit Out Without Extension?

This is why you don’t pick running backs with the second pick in the draft. I gave the Giants a B+ during that class when they picked Saquon Barkley. I should have given them an F based on the way things have transpired. Barkley was hit with the franchise tag this offseason and the former Penn State product has done nothing but cry since.

So much so that he’s now threatening to sit out Week 1 of the 2023 NFL Season if a contract extension is not completed.

VIA ESPN:

“Running back Saquon Barkley’s availability for Week 1 will be in serious question if he doesn’t reach a long-term deal with the New York Giants by Monday, a source told ESPN’s Dianna Russini.”

“Barkley and the Giants have until 4 p.m. ET Monday to finalize a deal. Otherwise, Barkley is not eligible to be re-signed until after the 2023 season.”

For the record, Nick Chubb is better than you so I’m not sure what the problem is here? Chubb is under contract for a very reasonable number. If Barkley was willing to sign for that number, I’m sure a deal would have been agreed to already. What exactly has Barkley done to prove he’s worth a contract that no longer should ever be handed out at the running back position?

If the Giants are smart they will trade Barkley (which they should have done years ago) or will just let that bum sit out. If Barkley wants to ruin his career by becoming the next Le’Veon Bell, then let him do just that. He’s been paid handsomely as a former number two overall pick and gets another nice check on the franchise tag. If that’s not good enough, tell him to go kick rocks. End of story.
