Netflix is close to landing Jerry Jones Docu-Series
The NFL and Netflix continue to expand their partnership. Just next week the NFL’s first works with Netflix will get released with the premier of the show “Quarterback.” Which will follow the journey of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota over the course of last season.
Now, Netflix has announced that they are in the works of creating a Docu-Series following Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones. Reports indicate that Netflix will pay around $50 million for the property.
Although it’s not an official deal yet, it seems that Netflix has won the bidding war with ESPN and Amazon.
The Series is being produced by NFL Films and will be 10 episodes long. The focus of the show is on the “glory days” of the Cowboys back in the early 1990s. You know since the Cowboys haven’t had any glory days since.
Will Netflix Get NFL Games?
Many people have heard this and now speculate that the streaming service could get a package of NFL games at some point. While that sounds like a great idea for both parties. I’m not sure that’s realistic given Netflixs history with live-streaming events.
Earlier this year, Netflix attempted to host a live event for the season finale of “Love is Blind.” Fans awaited the live stream but it seemingly never started. After a 15-minute delay, the lifestream was scrapped and the episode was released days later.
So if Netflix can’t even set up a live stream for some low-grade dating show, then how are they supposed to be able to handle multiple NFL games? It’s a valid question that many people including myself are wondering.
I’m sure the NFL is open to the idea, but they want to make 100 percent sure it’s something the streaming service can actually handle. But that’s all speculation in the future, for now, we await the release of these two Netflix shows and hope they can deliver as promised.
If they do, then Netflix has a much better shot at securing NFL games down the line. But if we see some major flops, this partnership can end even quicker than it started.
