Marcus Thuram moves to Inter Milan

Inter Milan has signed Marcus Thuram on a free transfer from Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, the club announced Saturday.

The French attacker has signed a five-year contract with the Italian side that includes a €95 million release clause.

Thuram has spent the last four seasons with Gladbach in the Bundesliga. During his time with the club, he made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 44 goals and adding 29 assists. He scored 16 goals and provided seven assists last season.

Thuram was linked with several other top European clubs this transfer window, including Newcastle United. However, he has decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and will be joining the Champions League finalists next season.

French soccer legend Lillian Thuram spent ten seasons in Italy, playing for both Parma and Juventus. It was while playing for Parma that he gave birth to his son Marcus who spent much of his youth growing up in Italy and watching Serie A.

“Coming to Serie A for me is like coming home,” Marcus Thuram said about his move to Inter. “I used to watch Serie A when I was a kid and I saw so many champions.”

Thuram was one of the most attractive free agents on the market this summer. His strength, speed and movement off of the ball make him a matchup nightmare for many defenses. He is also able to play with his back to goal, holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into the attack with him.

Thuram also has a fair amount of experience for a 25-year-old. He has been capped 10 times by the French national team, which is arguably the strongest national team in the world. One of these caps was coming off the bench in the 2022 World Cup Final that France lost to Argentina in penalties.

He has big game experience and has good technical and physical ability. For a free transfer, this is a very good signing for Inter.

While Inter was able to snap Thuram up on a free transfer, they have lost Milan Škriniar, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Roberto Gagliardini following the expiration of their contracts.

After reaching the Champions League final last year, Inter will be looking for more success this season. It will be interesting to see if Marcus Thuram can help lead them there.
