Matt Duchene Lands In Dallas

Matt Duchene is staying in the central division. However, it may not be the deal everyone is expecting. He will sign with the Dallas Stars in a one-year deal worth $3 million. He is getting back at Nashville after they bought him out this week. It’s a complete steal for a guy who provides very good depth for the Stars. Elliotte Friedman confirmed the news:

Obviously, Dallas has gotten a home run on a silver platter here. That top-six and powerplay has the chance to be absolutely dominant next season. It’s no secret that the Stars have had no help for their amazing top line featuring superstar Jason Robertson. One of the fastest guys in the league will now play on the second line for a dangerous group. $3 million is an absolute bargain for a guy who scored 86 points in 2022. The scales have tipped in their favor after the Seguin and Benn deals continue to age terribly.

Country Lovin’

Duchene will fit in just fine in Dallas. Like Nashville, they love country music. It’s not a huge adjustment in terms of lifestyle and him and his family will likely enjoy it. While it is not guaranteed, a long-term deal next summer makes sense. For now, he will enjoy a tax-free paycheck for a season. It’ll be interesting to see where the Stars turn their attention to next.

Ty Dellandrea is a restricted free agent. Their $1.3 million in cap space should probably do the trick on a short deal. Furthermore, Jake Oettinger’s bridge deal is out in only two short years. It’s never too far away to start thinking about the goaltending situation.

Somehow, someway, the Dallas Stars got a whole lot better. Matt Duchene was arguably the best forward available. He’s gonna play for $3 million next season. How far up the contenders rankings do you see them now?
