The Milan Lucic, Bruins Reunion Is Happening

It’s actually happening. Milan Lucic is heading back to Boston. After spending the first eight seasons of his career in Boston, Lucic is finally returning to the Bruins. Lucic hasn’t played for the Bruins since the 2014-15 season and will return after spending time with the Kings, Oilers, and Flames.

Rick Dhaliwal was the first to report the news of Lucic heading back to the Bruins.

Lucic, 35, actually spoke really recently about what a return to Boston would mean to him.

“Obviously it’s a special place for me and it will always be a special place for me,” Lucic told The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun last week when discussing a potential reunion between the 2011 Stanley Cup champion and the team which drafted him in 2006.

From a roster standpoint, this deal does impact the team. Trade deadline acquisition Garnet Hathaway likely won’t return now. His spot on the 4th line has just been filled by Lucic. Don Sweeney recently spoke about his impending free agents and sort of tipped his hand. They’re all in on trying to bring back Tyler Bertuzzi. The rest were deemed expendable.

Lucic first left Boston back in 2015 when he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Martin Jones, defenseman Colin Miller, and a pick that later became Jakub Zboril. Not exactly the greatest return in the world. Probably one the Bruins would like to have had back. What matters is Lucic is back and if that helps convince Patrice Bergeron to return this signing was worth it.
