On paper, it feels like the Golden Knights have their goalie room figured out for next year. Logan Thompson made the All-Star team a year ago and is likely the presumed starter. Stanley Cup hero Adin Hill has also been extended which creates your tandem for 2023-24. Are things really that easy heading into next year?
Kevin Weekes of ESPN had this to say about Thompson:
Sorry folks – in the abyss AKA @EWRairport trying to get on a flight that’s a day and a half later . Last tweet meant All-Star G Logan Thompson of @GoldenKnights drawing some interest from clubs to see if he’s available.@espn @NHL @NHLNetwork #HockeyTwitter

Should Vegas fans get worked up over this? Maybe?
Given where the Knights are cap-wise, it really doesn’t make any sense to move Thompson. He’s under contract for two more seasons at $766k. We’re also talking about a win-now team. Why on earth would the VGK move Thompson given the cap hit he carries?
I’m sure teams are calling but unless it’s a serious overpay, the VGK probably aren’t motivated to move him. Of course, they still need to figure out what’s going on with Robin Lehner. Until that part of the puzzle is resolved, I can’t see how the team moves on from a goalie that just made the All-Star team.
Never say never, I guess. It’s looking really unlikely that the Golden Knights can re-sign Ivan Barbashev. Is some team willing to overpay on Thompson that also brings back a left winger in return? That might be something Vegas is willing to listen to but that trade is easier said than done. Again, go look at where the Knights are cap wise. How do you move out Thompson while finding a goalie to replace him, while also getting a left winger back? Good luck putting all that together.
Odds are Thompson is back, but it’s important to note teams are calling. I’m sure teams are calling for Connor McDavid too. Take that for whatever it’s worth.
