It was rumored that Arsenal really wanted to bring Kai Havertz over from Chelsea. It turns out that there was more smoke to the fire. That’s exactly what’s happening. Arsenal have agreed to a transfer deal for Kai Havertz sending £67.5 million ($85.8m) to Chelsea for the German midfielder. The deal is actually worth worth £62.5m but there are five million in performance bonuses included.
David Ornstein of The Athletic was the first to report the news. Do not bother clicking the link as it’s behind a paywall.
Havertz, 24, will carry his original contract over to Arsenal. A deal that was set to expire in 2025. It was also reported that Havertz was not willing to sign an extension with Chelsea and wanted to move on. Chelsea didn’t want to be in a spot where the contract continued to depreciate, of course. New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino seemed more than willing to let Havertz depart the club.
“Sources have told ESPN that during conversations, Arsenal have indicated that in addition to being capable of operating as a No. 10 or No. 8, they see Havertz as a possible option in any of three attacking positions in an interchangeable forward line at the top of a 4-3-3 system.”
Havertz was one of the OG members of the Arsenal career mode series here at Vendetta a few years ago. It’s interesting to find himself at Arsenal years later. It seems like that Granit Xhaka is moving on so Havertz will likely take his spot in the midfield.
