It’s something that has become a staple for us NBA fans at this point, and that being Adrian Wojnarowski dropping “bombs” on Twitter during the draft; before picks are initially announced, Wojnarowski got the scoop on who’s getting picked, releasing it for fans to see. Being right basically all the time as well, but this year, he won’t be tipping the selection ahead of time this year because he felt like it took away from the broadcast itself, he announced on the Ryen Russillo podcast,
“Going from Yahoo to ESPN and sort of see what the responsibility is on the broadcast, and feeling like I need to be more fully engaged in the show,” he said. “I’m not doing the picks this year. Now that doesn’t mean…yeah the top of the draft if all of a sudden something weird is happening at (picks) two or three, yes (I will tweet something).”
“But the pick-by-pick, I don’t think it has value anymore for me or for ESPN.”

Now while hearing this sucks as a basketball fan, I can definitely understand why he is making this decision. It takes away from the entire point of the show he is recording at that moment.
But even though Woj won’t be tweeting at his rapid pace, there are plenty of other insiders who will be close to as fast as the man himself.
He was one of the first insiders to really start “leaking” picks before they were made. It wasn’t always popular with many feeling it ruined the excitement of the draft itself. But over the years, fans have grown to love it and they have him to thank for that.
It’s become a staple in the world of sports reporting and Woj is a big part of that. We, as sports fans, have become spoiled and I don’t think we even realize it.
But alas, this year Adrian Wojnarowski will take a break from his relentless coverage of the NBA Draft — at least in terms of him revealing information early. He still will be doing his normal job of reporting on information as it comes out. It just won’t be at quite the same speed.
It certainly won’t quite feel the same, but I think we as fans will survive. Again, I may not love the decision as a fan but I can say that I understand it. Who knows maybe he takes a break this one year but realizes he misses it too much. I certainly hope that ends up being the case.
