The New England Patriots look vulnerable for the first time in a long time. The Buffalo Bills should actually probably be the favorites in the AFC East which feels weird to say. No, the Patriots won’t miss Tom Brady. His subtraction is part of a larger issue. New England has a bad roster and Jarrett Stidham can’t play a lick. Could Andy Dalton actually save the Patriots season?
Cincinnati just released Dalton. New England has Stidham and Brian Hoyer on the roster. I don’t know what’s wrong with Bill Belichick but refusing to sign Dalton would just be ignorance at this point. We know they won’t sign Cam Newton. However, there’s no excuse to not sign Dalton. Who else needs a quarterback right now? Just Jacksonville behind Gardner Minshew and Pittsburgh behind Ben Roethlisberger. Dalton should and would start for New England.
Say what you want about the Patriots weapons, I’ll take their situation over what Andy Dalton has dealt with in Cincinnati. I think it would be fair to say that the Patriots would bring out the best version of Dalton. The difference between good Dalton and 2019 Tom Brady is minuscule.
2015 Andy Dalton: 13 starts, 66.1 percent, 3,250 yards, 25 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 8.4 yards per attempt
2019 Tom Brady: 16 starts, 60.8 percent, 4,057 yards, 24 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 6.6 yards per attempt
What if the Patriots get 2015 Andy Dalton? They won 12 games with bad quarterback play last year with Brady. The Patriots should be able to bring with defense and special teams like always. If Dalton can have a good year, New England could actually be a Super Bowl team by just repeating what they did a year ago.
I’m not saying Andy Dalton is my favorite guy in the world. He’s a hell of a lot better than Jarrett Stidham. If Belichick doesn’t sign Dalton, he’s just being ignorant at that point. Besides, imagine what winning a playoff game or two with Andy Dalton would do for his resume?
