Breaking down another wide receiver prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, it’s time to talk about Texas wide receiver Collin Johnson. If you’re a fan of Johnson, you’re better off exiting this post right now. I’m going to come right out and say it, I think Collin Johnson sucks. In a deep wide receiver draft, this might be my least favorite prospect of the bunch. I wouldn’t draft him and I’m about to tell you why. Here is your Collin Johnson 2020 NFL Draft Profile.
Sometimes we overthink the draft. A lot of times, I can watch a guy for 5 minutes and decide whether he has it or not. Sometimes the more you go back and forth, the more you’re prone to mistakes. Week 2 of the College Football season was all I needed to see. Johnson had his opportunity to make an impression against LSU. It was Devin Duvernay who shined. Johnson looked slow, unathletic, and weak.
SLOW is the biggest adjective that stands out. Johnson didn’t run at the combine. He refused to run at the combine claiming it was a hip injury but I’m not buying it. Johnson is just SLOW. The man can’t run. It reminded me a lot of Lil Jordan Humphrey from Texas a year ago. I liked Humphrey a hell of a lot more than Johnson and he didn’t get drafted.
It’s one thing to be slow. It’s another to lack any resemblance of a quick first step. Something has to give. I wrote in my Senior Bowl notes that Johnson had Gorilla glue strapped to his shoes. The man literally can’t move. Even if things turn out well for Johnson, a less talented version of Alshon Jeffery only gets you so far. Look at what has happened to Jeffery since he lost a step. Philly would do just about anything to take that contract back.
There is no other way to say it. Collin Johnson sucks. If Lil Jordan Humphrey can’t make it, then Johnson doesn’t have a prayer. I’ll make sure to get a good giggle in for the team that selects Johnson on draft day (if he gets picked).
