Tom Brady Is Too Old To Be Good

I’ve stood on a very lonely soapbox preaching to anyone that would listen that Tom Brady is overrated. It’s hard to prove that as he has 6 Super Bowl Wins. You can see why my crowds were often small. Nonetheless, I’ve never left my hill. I will die on this hill. Now, a new chapter for Tom Brady begins, the beginning of the end if you will. After much success with the New England Patriots, Tom Brady leaves and goes to the Bucs, who everyone thinks they are contenders. Sadly enough, that could not be further from the truth.

Tom Brady Needs

Tom Brady always had 3 things with the Patriots: A great defense, a great offensive line, and the best coach to ever do it in Bill Belichick. Now, on the Bucs, the Bucs have none of those things. Their offensive line is terrible, their defense is not all that great, and well Bruce Arians is no Bill Belichick as much as I like the guy. Sure, the Buccaneers receiving core is arguably the best in the business, especially after acquiring Gronk. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and now Gronk? Wow, that is stupendous. However, if you watched any Patriot games last year, you can see that Tom Brady cannot throw like he used to. In fact, at 42 years old, he has a noodle arm. In Bruce Arian’s offense, you need a cannon for deep balls, and Tom Brady just doesn’t have the capability to do that anymore. I think he can throw a lot of short balls and have his receivers thrive off of YAC. (I think Brady might be a great fantasy option).

Are we gonna sit here and act like the Bucs defense is good? Come on now. Do you know why Tom Brady went to the Super Bowls he did? His defenses were one of the best of the league at that time. In fact, all of his Super Bowl wins, they have a top 10 defense at least in the NFL. The Bucs defense is nowhere close to that and gives up a ton of yards and points. You’re telling me Tom Brady is going to keep up in these high scoring games? Yeah, right. The next thing you’re going to tell me is that my dick is big.

This last piece of evidence is the most damning of all. His new offensive line sucks. Tom Brady was never a speedster, and you’re telling me he’s going to be fine at 42 escaping pressure? This line cannot protect Tom Brady and he’s not safe at all. His receiving core is great…if he can actually get a chance to throw to them. Are we not going to mention how he has no reliable running backs either? Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones? Come on. Even if the Bucs draft the best RB in the 2020 NFL class, I’m not convinced it will be enough. I mean, who’s going to protect the RB then?

I think it’s laughable that people think the Bucs will win over 8 games this year. With their division of Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints, the best they will win in their division is 2-4. That’s a best-case scenario. They also play the AFC West, in my opinion, the most competitive division this year. I doubt they win more than 2 games in that division and they could honestly go 0-4 there. They also play the NFC North. I think they can win 2 games against the Bears and the Lions, but not the Vikings or Packers, so 2-2 there. Right now we are at 14 games. Their last two games are the Giants and the Rams. Those could be wins, but I like the Rams more than the Bucs. So, the best-case scenario is that the Bucs go 7-9 or 8-8. That’s the BEST CASE scenario.

Tom Brady is too old to be good anymore. The Bucs are in for a rude awakening. He’s old and fragile that has been coddled by the best coach in NFL History and an All-Star line. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets injured this year from the lack of protection. I think he’ll retire if that happens. Don’t worry Bucs fans, I’m sure your backup is good…oh it’s Blaine Gabbert. *gulp*. Are you worried yet, Bucs fans? You should be.
