Dalvin Cook: ‘Hurt’ To See Stefon Diggs Traded

It was only a matter of time before someone on the Vikings spoke out about the Stefon Diggs trade. Enter Dalvin Cook who shared his thoughts today. The trio of Diggs, Cook, and Thielen was maybe the best in the game. Losing Diggs leaves a huge void at the wider receiver spot that the Vikings haven’t filled yet.

Cook described the Diggs trade as ‘hurt’:

“That one hurt,” Cook said in a telephone interview with the Pioneer Press. “It hurt. That’s my brother. You know how close me and Diggsie were. To see him leave, it hurts because you spend so much time with a guy. … It hurt a lot of guys in the locker room, but it’s part of the business. We’ve got to accept that Diggs wanted to be happy and be happy for him as a player.”

The Vikings did sign Tajae Sharpe this offseason who I think has potential. Still, even if Sharpe works out, that doesn’t fill the void Diggs left behind. The good news is the 2020 NFL Draft is loaded with wide receiver talent. They shouldn’t have an issue finding his replacement in the draft even if he doesn’t totally fill the shoes left behind.

Dalvin Cook later mentioned in the post that it’s time for some of the younger guys on the team to step into a leadership role after the Stefon Diggs trade:

“Now, it’s time for some of the younger guys to step up and time for us to go out here and still be contenders,” Cook told the Pioneer Press. “I was close to a lot of those guys [that are gone] but that’s part of the business, and you’ve got to move forward. I just think the Vikings, we’ve just got to come together and I think we’ll still be contenders at the end of the day. It’s just going to be some new faces that you’ve got to get used to.”
